The Obama Presidential Center – Strategies for Design and Specification of Enclosure Systems
The presentation will focus on the development of the building envelope for the Obama Presidential Center. We will discuss the overall design concepts and goals, and how these informed the choice of materials and systems. The presentation will review how several facade systems were developed in detail from initial idea through construction, including the ways that design ideas, construction documentation, and contractor input informed one another.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the primary façade, roofing, and waterproofing systems used on the project.
- Explain how project specifications influenced system design and procurement.
- Describe the collaborative process among the design team, contractors, and manufacturers.
- Review required mock-ups and testing protocols and their role in guiding construction.
