Brick of Chicago: Loop Walking Tour
Chicago’s Loop is known worldwide for its skyscrapers and shopping, but take a closer look and you’ll discover something unexpected: brick, clay, and lots of it.
Join CSI Chicago for a 1.5-hour Brick of Chicago walking tour exploring the Loop through one of its most overlooked building materials. Discover how brick forms the facades, structures, and interiors of some of Chicago’s most notable buildings, while sculptural glazed terra cotta hides in plain sight, transforming skyscrapers into works of art.
Along the way, we’ll see masterpieces by architectural legends including Louis Sullivan, Burnham and Root, and Mies van der Rohe and learn how each used and reinvented brick and clay to fit their architectural vision. And yes—even Mies loved brick!
Voted Chicago’s second-best tour by the Chicago Reader, Brick of Chicago offers a new way to experience the city and the architecture surrounding us every day. Afterward, you may never look at Chicago—or the humble brick—the same way again!
Please Note: This is a 1.5-hour walking tour, so comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. The tour begins and ends at the Chicago Cultural Center.
Registration Cost: $25.00 for CSI Chicago members & non-members
Space is limited to 25 attendees.
